The Liberal Democrat County Council candidate for Canterbury South, Mike Sole, gives his backing to the key priorities of Kent Liberal Democrats. Mile Sole - flytipping

Mike Sole is a passionate environmental campaigner. He was the councillor who first demanded that Canterbury City Council declare a Climate Emergency.

"I have a record of standing up to protect the countryside, in particular the Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty, from unwelcome development.

"We need to enhance biodiversity, protect and encourage more trees to be planted, engaging with developers and landowners. Kent is known as 'The Garden of England', yet it is full of litter and fly-tipping - hardly the image that we want to portray to potential visitors that will be so important as part of our post-Covid-19 recovery."

Mike Sole - floodingLiving near the Nailbourne and helping residents out during times of flooding gives Mike a personal perspective on how distressing and destructive rivers can be if not properly managed.

"Like many other rivers in Kent, the Nailbourne, Stour and Little Stour all have the potential to wreak havoc when they flood" says Mike.

"It should not be a surprise when this happens, yet KCC could do a lot more to reduce the impact of these floods by investing in long term solutions rather than periodic temporary solutions."

"If I am elected to Kent County Council, caring for the environment would be a top priority for our area, and for the rest of Kent."
