Brian was born in Kent and has lived in the Borough for 44 years. For ten years he was the Chairman of the Maidstone Sports Advisory Council. He believes that we must bring back the slogan "Sport for All" facilitating the provision of a wide range of sports facilities at an affordable price and in protecting and enhancing our wonderful parks and open spaces. As a long time member of a local band he also understands the needs and requirements of cultural organisations both large and small and the importance of promoting the Hazlitt Theatre, the museum and all our other cultural assets.

Colin has lived in Kent for 22 years, the last 8 of which have been in Coxheath. He is a successful businessman, currently managing two manufacturing companies, and has previous experience of banking, finance, strategic planning, project management, commercial management and marketing. This wide business experience at executive level gives Colin an excellent basis for understanding the Corporate Services function within Maidstone Borough Council for the benefit of the electorate.

News from Coxheath and Hunton

Wed 7th Apr 2010:

The Lib Dem group have today launched their local manifesto. Key highlights include:

Fri 5th Feb 2010:

Wed 18th Nov 2009:

Peter Carroll's campaign to Keep Full Maternity in Maidstone has received very strong support from across the Coxheath and Hunton Ward. Cllr Brian Mortimer said, "Hundreds of people from our area have signed Peter's petition and sent it back. I know from talking to local people that they just don't accept that our County Town should have this vital service downgraded."

You can find the answers to this month's quiz on the Coxheath and Hunton pages of this website (link below). How will you do?

On 25th October Kent Highways started work on the alterations that needed to be carried out on the Coxheath traffic calming scheme. These alterations are due to health and safety issues. Kent County Council will be closely monitoring the scheme over the next 6 months and will then produce a report on its performance. Cllr Brian Mortimer and Cllr Colin Parr, along with members of the Coxheath Parish Council, are due to meet with the County Council's cabinet member for Highways to receive an update on all issues relating to the traffic calming.

Tue 15th Sep 2009:

Many residents attended the public meeting back in March and went away with hope that Kent County Council was listening and would act upon the views expressed. Sadly it appears that this was nothing more than a PR exercise just before the County Council elections. From consultation and the public meeting, it is very clear that the majority of residents do not want the present scheme, or either of the two alternatives put forward by Kent County Council.

Thu 10th Apr 2008:

Maidstone town centre visitors no longer have to throw away their drinks cans, plastic bottles, plastic sandwich wrappers or newspapers. Maidstone Borough Council has installed ten special recycling bins in the town centre and a further two at Coxheath Parade so that shoppers can throw away their litter with a clear conscience that they will be recycled.

Mon 24th Mar 2008:

Local Lib Dems have initiated a 'Big Spring Clean' in woodland off Hunton Hill near Coxheath. The Coxheath and Hunton Liberal Democrat Councillors accompanied by local campaigner Moira Walter and other locals spent Saturday morning clearing dumped tyres, traffic cones, building trade debris and litter from picturesque woodland flanking Hunton Hill.

Tue 10th Apr 2007:

Kent Highways Services have just announced that they are going to issue Traffic Orders to make the whole length of Farleigh Lane from the Fountain (A26) to the Bull at Lower Road, East Farleigh 30mph . This order, now going to public consultation, will remove the nonsensical national speed limit of 60mph along about half a mile between existing 30 mph zones.

Fri 6th Apr 2007:

Your Liberal Democrat Councillors recently toured Coxheath and Hunton Ward with senior officers from Maidstone Borough Council. We are pleased to tell you that the Council and its waste contractors have agreed that a number of sites in the Ward can be used for siting bottle banks and recycling bins.

Thu 5th Apr 2007:

Residents have been contacting Councillor Brian Mortimer and Councillor John Williams to express their concerns with the traffic calming along Heath Road, Coxheath.
