Lib Dem Cllrs Brian Mortimer and Colin Parr are angry that Conservative-led Maidstone Borough Council is considering cutting £120,000 from the Street Cleaning budget.

Cllr Brian Mortimer said, "We know only too well in our rural areas that any cut to this service will have a detrimental effect."

Cllr Colin Parr added, "They are also considering recharging parish councils for the cost of elections and cutting money that Councillors can spend in their area by 50%"

Local Lib Dem campaigner Peter Carroll said,

"It's all too easy for the Council to forget that many people live out in the rural areas and that rural communities have particular needs'.
