Salt Bin Review adds "Insult to Injury"

9.55.27am GMT Fri 15th Jan 2010

The Lib Dem Leader of the Opposition at County Hall has reacted angrily to a Kent County Council (KCC) decision to ban Parish Councils from buying their own salt bins.

Trudy Dean, who is also the Chairman of West Malling Parish Council, said:

"This is madness. In the recent weeks of snow and ice KCC has failed to clear pavements at all, and many roads have remained lethal. In many areas the only activity has been where local residents have helped themselves and neighbours by clearing paths.

"Instead of trying to help, KCC has chosen this time to announce a new Salt Bin Policy which bans Parish Councils from buying their own, and insists that they must be bought by KCC who will approve where they should go. Only local people know where the danger spots are where grit and clearance are needed. If its so short of money why do KCC want to take over more spending? Announcing this policy at this particular time will literally add insult to injury."
