Lib Dems Host Climate Change Round-Table & Challenge Prime Minister on Copenhagen Climate Conference

Nick Clegg, Leader of the Liberal Democrats, this week challenged Gordon Brown at Prime Minister's Questions about climate change before hosting a high profile roundtable summit of key campaign groups, charities and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) about the upcoming United Nations Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen. He called for the Prime Minister to improve his environmental record at home in order to speak with authority abroad, citing last week's defeat by Labour MPs of the Liberal Democrat motion to sign the Houses of Parliament and the Government up to the 10:10 campaign to reduce carbon emissions.

The Liberal Democrats believe that we simply cannot afford to let the forthcoming negotiations in Copenhagen conclude without the kind of ambitious treaty that our climate and our future demands from us. That is why Nick Clegg was joined by Liberal Democrat Shadow Energy and Climate Change Secretary Simon Hughes to host a roundtable summit of key campaign groups, charities and NGOs. Senior representatives from Green Alliance, WWF, Oxfam and Greenpeace were among other campaigners who attended and discussed the objectives the UK should set going into the negotiations, and how campaigners can work together to ensure these objectives are ambitious enough
