Common sense comes to Farleigh Lane, Maidstone

2.41.32pm BST (GMT +0100) Tue 10th Apr 2007

Kent Highways Services have just announced that they are going to issue Traffic Orders to make the whole length of Farleigh Lane from the Fountain (A26) to the Bull at Lower Road, East Farleigh 30mph . This order, now going to public consultation, will remove the nonsensical national speed limit of 60mph along about half a mile between existing 30 mph zones.

This change is coming about because of the development by Jones Homes in Farleigh Lane outside the existing urban 30mph limit.

Liberal Democrat County and Maidstone councillors have been battling for this for years, so welcome the news which will no doubt also be welcomed by the long suffering residents of Farleigh Lane who can now look forward to safer and slower speeds outside their properties.

Next on the LibDem councillors' campaign list are controlled traffic lights for Farleigh Bridge and traffic islands at the corner of Gatland Lane.
