Complaints from local residents about potholes, failing street lamps and damaged or missing road signs are now reaching epidemic proportions in many areas of Maidstone.

Councillors Patrick Sellar and David Naghi have reported more than 40 damaged or missing street signs.

East Ward Borough Councillor Patrick Sellar explained, "It seems that the highways department are in chaos. Councillor Dave Naghi and I recently completed a full survey of street signs and we have reported over 40 signs damaged, missing or obliterated, and have now been told there is no money currently available, and it will be at least 3 months before any action is taken. He added, "I have had many callers knock on my door asking which road they are in and even had a package left wrongly on my doorstep because the driver could not tell where one road ends and another begins."

Councillor Dave Naghi added, "I get calls almost daily on Highway problems. We have one road where the trip hazards, broken flower beds and sunken paving were reported last April and there is still no sign of any action."
