Spread some Christmas cheer this year

Over 13,000 single people will rely on meals on wheels this festive season for their Christmas dinner, according to figures obtained by the Liberal Democrats.

Of all the authorities surveyed, Derbyshire has the highest number of single person households receiving meals on wheels on Christmas Day. Commenting on the results, Liberal Democrat Shadow Local Government Secretary, Andrew Stunell MP said: "Thousands of elderly people will be tucking into their meals on wheels Christmas dinner alone this Christmas. Feeling isolated and lonely at this time of year can be particularly hard when everyone around you seems to be having fun. I am urging people to use their time to help reduce loneliness in their community this Christmas. You could get in touch with an older friend, relative or neighbour who might be alone, go round for a mince pie and a chat, or invite them to Christmas dinner."
