As the Incinerator at Allington continues to undergo commissioning tests, the mature evergreen screen of trees around the edge of the site facing the public roads has been removed.

Local Lib Dem Borough Councillor Malcolm Robertson, who has received many calls from furious residents, says, "We were not advised they were to be removed at this stage. This seems a crazy decision. Surely it would have been better to have left this screen in place until the 27,000 young trees of indigenous varieties that are being planted get properly established, which could be many years. We believe that for Kent County Council to have insisted that the agreed planting scheme should be slavishly followed and to have not allowed some sensible interpretation does not bode well for responsible decision making at this site in the future".
