The nuisance and pollution caused by fly tipping and abandoned vehicles is an issue many residents would like to see addressed. Councillor Tony Harwood has initiated and led high profile studies which have directly led to:

· the innovative intelligence led CUBIT campaign which swept abandoned and untaxed vehicles from Maidstone's streets and influenced Government policy;

· the establishment of the tough Operation Lasso, where multi-agency teams stopped and checked trucks and vans to check for current waste transfer notices, illegal red diesel use, vehicle safety, up-to-date tax and insurance and illegal workers with dramatic effect.
