
A familiar Maidstone figure plans to risk her safety by flying to Istanbul, scene of on-going protests, to show her opposition to the government.
Diana Gerard, wife of local Liberal Democrat parliamentary spokesman Jasper Gerard, is angered by the Turkish government's attempt to bring in more Islamic laws and cut down basic freedoms. A Christian, she was brought up in Istanbul and is devastated to see police attempts to crush the demonstrations night after night on television.


Local kids have joined the campaign to save the Bluebell Wood off Hermitage Lane. The three lads ride their bikes through the wood after school most days and stopped to ask Liberal Democrat MP Stephen Lloyd what he was doing there on a recent visit. They were shocked to learn that Lloyd was there to campaign for the preservation for the wood after the council indicated it wanted to build houses there.
