In early spring, the Tourist Information Centre, which for a number of years had been based in the lower entrance vestibule of Town Hall in the centre of town, was relocated to the Maidstone Museum.
Officers and Councillors are now considering how the vacated area could be put to best use.
David Picket, Liberal Democrat Shadow Cabinet Member for Corporate Services has written to Eric Hotson Cabinet Member for Corp[orate services outlining the recommendations from the Liberal Democrat Group.
David says, "We would suggest that the chamber continues to be hired out to appropriate organisations and individuals for special social functions. The lower entrance vestibule could also be made available for occasional lets such as arts and cultural displays, farmers' markets and craft fairs, and we also consider we should encourage, for a realistic fee, small entrepreneurs to display their wares for a limited period, who otherwise could not afford town centre premises.
However, any usage should be totally in keeping with the tradition of our historic Town Hall and not in any way detract from the dignity of this iconic building."
