After having campaigned against the removal of the dog waste bins for many months the Liberal Democrats and angry local residents have forced Maidstone Conservatives
into a 'U' turn on the popular dog waste bin service. Axing the bins had formed a key part of the Conservative budget at Maidstone Council, but they have now announced that they intend to reverse their earlier decision.
Lib Dem Shadow Cabinet Member for the Environment, Cllr. Rob Field welcomed the Tories back-tracking and said, "It has been a long hard slog trying to get the Conservatives to use some common-sense on this issue. But I'm really pleased that they've finally understood that telling dog -owners to use ordinary "open" litter bins to dispose of the 2 to 3 tonnes of dog mess collected every week from "sealed" dog waste bins is both anti-social and a real health risk. Already one litter bin has had to be moved following complaints from residents about the disgusting smell of festering dog waste. This is good news for dog owners, residents and visitors alike."
