Great News For Keep Full Maternity In Maidstone

March 26, 2010 8:13 AM

Peter Carroll, Lib Dem Parliamentary Candidate for Maidstone & The Weald has reacted with delight to news that the Secretary of State for Health is taking the issue of Keep Full Maternity in Maidstone very seriously. The Minister has written to Kent County Council informing them that he has tasked his panel of experts - the Independent Review Panel (IRP) - to look at the issue immediately and to report to him by 7th May 2010.

Peter Carroll 'door-stepped' the Minister only a few weeks whilst campaigning for Maidstone Maternity services in Whitehall. Peter said, 'This is great news for the campaign. We really need the IRP to find in our favour. If it does, it is very likely that the Minister will force a retreat on the plans of local Health bosses to downgrade Maidstone Maternity. I'd like to pay tribute to all the campaigners in the community wide cross party action group Maidstone Action for Services in Hospital (MASH) and to thank every single person who has supported my campaigning efforts on this issue. We really have a chance of stopping this'.
