The closure of public toilets by Conservative run Maidstone Council has hit the elderly and young families hard.
Maidstone resident Kelly told us:
"The Council closing the public toilets in the run-up to Christmas was really mean; young children, senior citizens and expectant mums especially relied on them so much".
She added "I work in local retail and worry that the Council seems determined to undermine the attractiveness of the County Town to shoppers - first by bringing in Sunday car parking charges and now by shutting the public toilets".
Another Maidstone resident, Geoffrey aged 90 and still driving said:
"I strongly protest about the closure of the Church Street toilets. There is always a toilet next to a car park in any town you can think of, and necessarily so. Think of travellers being stuck in traffic and in discomfort. Don't the council want to encourage visitors? and think of all the extra mess in adjacent corners."
Local campaigner Peter Carroll said "This is just another example of the bad decisions made by Helen Grant's Conservatives. I will fight for the interests of local people, to stop these ridiculous policies."
