Ian Chittenden and other Lib Dem Councillors are challenging the conservatives parking proposals
Huge numbers of residents are showing their opposition to the Tory parking plans to charge residents £25 for their first parking permit and to impose Sunday parking charges, by writing and emailing their opinions to the Borough Council and by signing our petition.
The proposal has been put before a meeting of the Scrutiny Committee but, in spite of strong opposition from the Lib.Dems., the Tory majority on the committee voted to go ahead.
So the fight continues:
• The Conservatives are now required to carry out a full Public Consultation and you will have received a letter from the Council explaining how you can make your views known. If you feel as strongly about this issue as we do, please respond to this consultation. Many residents already have. You can still write to Mr. Steve Goulette, Maidstone Borough Council, King Street, Maidstone, ME15 6JQ, but please do so before 16th February, otherwise your opinion will not be taken into account.
• There will be a Special Meeting of the Joint Transport Board on TUESDAY, 24TH FEBRUARY, AT 5.00 pm in the Town Hall At this meeting the petition you signed will be formally presented, along with the results of the consultation. You have the right to attend this meeting, and urge you to do so, but only up to ten residents will be allowed to speak. If you would like to speak, please contact Janet Barnes on 01622 602242 as soon as possible.
• If you have not signed our petition please do so by clicking the link on the home page.
Please continue to support our campaign. For the first time in many years the Conservatives have a majority on both the Borough Council and the County Council but you can be confident that the Liberal Democrats at both levels will continue to fight these disgraceful proposals every step of the way. A strong showing from local residents will do much to strengthen our case.
