Lib Dem campaigner Peter Carroll at the Cranbrook Council Offices
Peter Carroll, the prospective Parliamentary Candidate for the Lib Dems in Maidstone & The Weald, has offered his support to The Weald Centre Project in Cranbrook.
The Project aims to turn the disused Cranbrook Council offices into a vibrant community and local business resource. Peter said, 'It is clear to me that the overwhelming majority of Cranbrook residents support this project. However, Tunbridge Wells Borough Council seem intent on selling this land for housing.
To make matters worse, existing community services that were housed in the Offices have been allowed to run down. Tunbridge Wells Borough Council are now pressing for a 'cut down' community facility in Kent County Council's Library site - a move that has support from neither Kent County Council nor the local community. My understanding is that Local Authorities are being actively encouraged by Government to try and utilise properties like this for community use. It beggars belief that at a time when so many local services are under threat and are being lost from local communities that the Council won't get behind this project. The Project has a superbly argued and well presented business case and they have my unqualified support'.
