Waste Minimisation and Recycling Improvements

Did you know that household waste accounts for only fifteen percent of the UK's rubbish? Lib Dem Maidstone Council Environment lead member Tony Harwood has convinced the influential Kent Waste Partnership to ensure greater attention is directed to ensuring waste minimisation within the commercial sector. Liberal Democrats have also initiated a campaign to cut down on wasteful use of carrier bags in Maidstone through the launch of a re-usable Maidstone bag campaign and are developing further waste minimisation projects.
Lib Dems have also moved quickly to promote the early introduction of recycling bins into the town centre, alongside existing conventional litter bins. It is planned to introduce the new recycling bins when 'doorstep' recycling enhancements are introduced early next year.
