Refuse and recycling collection changes

January 26, 2007 6:05 AM

Refuse and recycling collection days are changing for most people, from the end of the month.

Maidstone Borough Council has been working with its contractor, SITA UK, to improve the efficiency of the borough's refuse and recycling collection services and the new collection days will start from the week commencing Monday 29 January.

Wheely BinThe new rounds will reduce the number of vehicles on the road, from twelve to eleven, and reduce the distance they have to travel. Most people will see a change, either in the day of collection or in the sequence of recycling collections.

With such a big change to this important service and because some people in the same street have different collections, the council is making sure that everyone knows their collection day. It has sent a postcard to every household and is following that up by a letter, with a bin sticker and recycling calendar

Extra side waste will be collected between Monday 29 January and Friday 9 February to help residents during the change over. Refuse and recycling collections will start at 7am as usual.

The council will not be writing to residents of flats who do not have to put their bin out on a set day, but they might notice a change in their collection days.

For more information call Maidstone Borough Council's cleansing hotline on 01622 602162.
